On Friday May 22nd, 2026, John Ball Zoo opened their new North American River Otter exhibit. They celebrated the opening of this new exhibit with an event they called Otterpalooza, where guests were able to see the otters happily enjoying their new exhibit. This expansion of the otter exhibit replaced the previous 43-year-old exhibit with brand two brand new pools, one 17,000-gallon deep pool and a 4,000-gallon shallow pool. There is also a notable waterfall feature within the habitat and two back of house holding pools utilized for treatment of the otters. Satchell Engineering & Associates is proud to be the lead designers for the aquatic Life Support Systems for this project. Opening of Jacksonville Zoo and Botanical Garden’s Manatee River
Jacksonville Zoo and Botanical Garden’s recently opened their new Manatee River Exhibit. This 330,000-gallon freshwater exhibit was officially opened to the public on March 6th, 2026. This exhibit features three underwater viewing pools for guest to enjoy as well as four back of house pools utilized for rescue and rehabilitation of the manatees in residence. The back of house rehabilitation pools are also available to tour, allowing staff to share their mission of rescue, rehabilitation, and release. All the aquatic life support systems on this exhibit were designed by Satchell Engineering & Associates. San Diego Zoo, Safari Park’s Elephant Valley is Officially Open
We are excited to announce the opening of the newly upgraded Elephant Valley exhibit at the San Diego Zoo, Safari Park! This exhibit opened March 5th, 2026, to the public, featuring Satchell Engineering & Associates’ newly designed pools and LSS filtration system on the West side of the exhibit. San Diego Zoo & Safari Park to be Showcased
Satchell Engineering & Associates have been privileged to complete many projects for the San Diego Zoological Society including the new Africa Rocks.
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Television audiences will soon get an exclusive look behind the scenes at what makes one of San Diego’s jewels so special.
The Animal Planet’s new series “The Zoo” is coming to America’s Finest City where it will feature the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park, according to the Hollywood Reporter .
“The Zoo: San Diego” will debut later this year and promises audiences “an unscripted look at the knowledge and diverse skills needed to operate a zoo,” according to Animal Planet.
Audiences will get a glimpse behind San Diego’s glass and fences at local residents, including California condors, pandas, giraffes, Galápagos tortoises, koalas, elephants, and cheetahs, Hollywood Reporter reported.
The show will also highlight what San Diego Zoo workers and veterinarians do to care for animals and for wildlife conservation projects.
“The vision of San Diego Zoo Global is to lead the fight against extinction,” Rick Schwartz, San Diego Zoo Global ambassador, told Hollywood Reporter. “We know that this compelling program will not only delight and engage viewers, but will also provide a global platform for us to share incredible stories of the conservation efforts that our organization has undertaken to ensure the survival of endangered species.”
Zoo Golf Cincinnati
Zoo Golf Cincinnati at Maketewah County Club took place on April 29th 2019 and Satchell Engineering & Associates was once again a proud sponsor of this great event. The Zoo Golf fundraiser presented by Pepper Construction of Ohio helps raise money for future projects at the Cincinnati Zoo including the new $150 million “More Home to Roam” campaign. Como Park Zoo Breaks Ground
Como Park Zoo in St. Paul, Minnesota, has started construction of a new habitat for its sea lions and seals. Satchell Engineering & Associates is proud to be part of the design team for the new exhibit which is to open in late 2019. The new exhibit, which will be renamed “Como Harbor,” will feature an underwater viewing space and two year-round pools. AALSO 2018 In Niagara Falls
The 2018 Aquatic Animal Life Support Operators (AALSO) Symposium will be held in Niagara Falls, New York from March 25th through March 28th 2018. The 24th Annual AALSO Symposium will be hosted by three facilities this year, The Buffalo Zoo, The Aquarium of Niagara, and Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada. Satchell Engineering & Associates is proud to once again sponsor the event with providing a Full Educational Sponsorship to a student from Miami Aquarium and being a sponsor of the T-shirts.
