Satchell Engineering & Associates was asked to make an assessment and recommendations for future renovations of the 35-year-old SeaWorld Orlando, Shark Encounter life support systems. The 700,000-gallon habitat housing an impressive collection of sea life was equipped with pressure sand filtration, and ozone for disinfection. This system was state of the art in 1979 but needed to be updated as LSS design has evolved over the last 35+ years. Satchell Engineering & Associates found three key areas or the aging LSS that needed to be addressed: Nitrate digestion, organics/fractionation, and ozone injection/contact/desaturation – all areas to enhance design.
Working with SeaWorld, we were able to renovate the outdated LSS system to reduce nitrate levels which enhances the overall health of the collection, reduce fractions of particulate and dissolved organics that addresses visual perception.
