St. Louis Zoo’s Sea Lion Sound exhibit’s LSS was designed by Robert Satchell. The exhibit features a sea lion stadium, natural main pool with underwater viewing tunnel and holding pools. The 1.5-acre, $18 million habitat and arena for 11 California sea lions includes two state of the art marine mammal exhibits. The spectacular exhibit holds nearly 250,000 gallons of saltwater. The Sea Lion Sound exhibit was the first ever in North America to have a walk through underwater 35-foot-long tunnel into the sea lions’ habitat.
In 2015 Saint Louis Zoo opened the 40,000 square foot, state of the art Mc Donnell Polar Bear Point exhibit. With its natural substrate, and saltwater pools, the exhibit transitions seamlessly from sea to coastline to land. It offers polar bears the opportunity to enjoy swimming, diving, rock climbing and digging in the sand.
