Cheyenne Mountain Zoo , Water’s Edge: Africa is home to Nile Hippos and African Penguins. The Nile Hippo pool is a 133,000-gallon freshwater exhibit that is both indoor and outdoor for both the animals and guest’s enjoyment. The African Penguin pool is a 30,000-gallon freshwater exhibit that features cascading pools that are both indoor and outdoor. This exhibit also features an underwater viewing area for guests.
Satchell Engineering & Associates designed the Life Support System for these exhibits that utilizes a fine filtration system. The Life Support System consists of drum filters and their controllers, high power pumps, ozone contactors, and chlorinators. See Photo Gallery.
