The Columbian Park Zoo’s Penguin Cove is a 7,200 gallon freshwater pool home to African penguins. This exhibit has both above ground and underwater that enables visitors to observe the African Penguins in their natural element, both swimming and interacting on land. With a total budget of 1.6 million dollars, this project created an immersive and educational experience for visitors.
Satchell Engineering & Associates designed the aquatic Life Support Systems for Penguin cove. We used a fine filtration system that consists of vertical sand filters and pumps, deaeration towers, ozone disinfection, off-gas destruct, chlorinators, and heat exchangers.
