Cincinnati Zoo’s Elephant Trek is an expansive exhibit that features a variety of animals from Asia. Satchell Engineering & Associates had a special role in designing the exhibits for both the Asian Elephants and the Asian Small-Clawed Otters. We also designed two streams throughout the exhibit for guest’s viewing enjoyment.

The Asian Elephant pool in a 209,000-gallon fresh water pool that has above ground viewing for guests and waterfall features for the elephant’s enjoyment. Satchell Engineering & Associates designed the aquatic Life Support System for exhibit. It uses a fine and coarse filtration system consisting of screen channel filters, vertical sand filters and pumps, ozone generators, and chlorinators.

The Asian Small-Clawed Otters pool is a 10,000-gallon freshwater pool that has an above ground viewing for guests. Satchell Engineering & Associates designed the aquatic Life Support System for exhibit. The system utilizes a fine filtration consisting of vertical sand filters and pumps, a deaeration tower, ozone generator, off-gas destruct, and heat exchanger.

The Garden Stream is a 11,000-gallon freshwater pool that generates a stream stretching through the exhibit. It uses a fine filtration system consisting of vertical sand filters and pumps, and a packaged liquid chlorine feeder. The Interpretive Village Stream is a 31,000-gallon pool that generates a larger stream. The system uses a fine filtration system including a vertical sand filter and pumps, and a packaged liquid chlorine feeder. See Photo Gallery.
