The COX Science Center & Aquarium houses the Aquarium of the Atlantic, an expansive exhibit that highlights the native species of the Atlantic ocean. Some of the species featured in this exhibit are stingrays, seahorses, and moral eels.
Satchell Engineering & Associates designed the aquatic Life Support Systems for the twenty tanks around the aquarium. There are 41,000-gallons of saltwater circulating between the tanks. Many of the exhibits are run on their own filtration system that consists of similar pieces of equipment. These systems uses a fine filtration system that utilizes vertical sand filters and pumps, bag filters, bio filters, protein skimmers, deaeration towers, UV sterilization, and heat exchangers.
