Satchell Engineering & Associates were contracted by Elmwood Park Zoo to create a Concept Design for their project North America. This project included an exhibit for the North American Otters that consisted of two pools with above ground and underwater viewing. The other exhibit that we designed was for the American Alligator that had one indoor pool and one outdoor pool with an attached stream.
The North American Otter pools were 11,500-gallons of freshwater that used a fine filtration system that consisted of vertical sand filters and pumps, deaeration towers, ozone disinfection, off-gas destruct, and heat exchangers. The American Alligator exhibit was designed to hold 17,000-gallons of freshwater and used a fine filtration system that consists of vertical sand filters and pumps, deaeration towers, ozone disinfection, off-gas destruct, and heat exchangers.
