John Ball Zoo has a mission dedicated to the reduction of water usage throughout the zoo. To support this mission, Satchell Engineering & Associates designed the aquatic Life Support Systems for a 20,000-gallon freshwater pond that will act as a water re-use storage tank for the zoo. This water will be used in many ways throughout the park such as irrigation needs, bathrooms, and makeup water for the Pygmy Hippo exhibit.

This water re-use pond will be filtered using a fine filtration system that consists of AFM glass media filters and pumps, UV sterilization, and chlorinators. This system will have controls to separate the potable and non-potable water, distributing them accordingly.
