The Orange County Zoo expanded their property to build the new exhibit Large Mammals. This exhibit is now home to three mountain lions and one black panther. The exhibit also features five freshwater pools throughout the habitats that have cascading waterfall effects and above ground viewing for guests.
Satchell Engineering & Associates designed the aquatic Life Support System for the Large Mammal exhibit. These pools each have their own filtration system that are interconnected to optimize water usage for the zoo. The first habitats pools use a fine filtration system that consists of vertical sand filters and pumps, UV sterilization, and chlorinators. The second habitats pools are also use a fine filtration system that consists of vertical sand filters and pumps, UV sterilization, and chlorinators. See Photo Gallery
