Abu Dhabi, UAE

SeaWorld Abu Dhabi had its grand opening in May 2023 and is home to the world’s largest and most expansive marine-life aquarium, containing 25 million litres (6.6 million gallons) of water and housing more than 100,000 marine animals distributed over eight different realms, including sharks, schools of fish, manta rays, sea lions, and sea turtles. One of the main attractions at the aquarium is the “Endless Vista”. There is an impressive 20-meter (65-foot) tall vertical window that stretches across multiple levels, revealing stunning aquatic scenes. Spanning the floor area of 183,000 square meters across five indoor levels, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi’s design utilizes SeaWorld’s more than 55 years of experience in marine research, conservation, and animal welfare.

Satchell Engineering & Associates designed the aquatic Life Support Systems for the entire marine park. This massive undertaking contains over 65 different life support systems that range from running single pools to running as many as 11 pools. The system uses primarily fine filtration tactics with a range of equipment such as vertical sand filters and pumps, GAC filters and pumps, drum filtration, vacuum pumps,  protein skimmers, deaeration towers, ozone disinfection, UV sterilization, denitrification, RO systems, calcium reactors, chlorinators, and heat exchangers.
