Athens, TX

Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center houses four unique viewing tanks for different species local to the Texas region. The four tanks highlight the Guadalupe Bass, the ShareLunker, the Trout, and the Urban ponds tank, which features a variety of smaller freshwater fish. The tanks total to 23,000-gallons of freshwater for these fish to enjoy.

Satchell Engineering & Associates designed the aquatic Life Support System for these exhibits. Each tank is run on its own filtration system with many of the components across the different systems being similar. The tanks use a fine filtration system that consists of vertical sand filters and pumps, carbon cartridge filters, deaeration towers, UV sterilization, and heat exchangers. See Photo Gallery.
