On Friday May 22nd, 2026, John Ball Zoo opened their new North American River Otter exhibit. They celebrated the opening of this new exhibit with an event they called Otterpalooza, where guests were able to see the otters happily enjoying their new exhibit. This expansion of the otter exhibit replaced the previous 43-year-old exhibit with brand two brand new pools, one 17,000-gallon deep pool and a 4,000-gallon shallow pool. There is also a notable waterfall feature within the habitat and two back of house holding pools utilized for treatment of the otters. Satchell Engineering & Associates is proud to be the lead designers for the aquatic Life Support Systems for this project.
