Como Park Zoo located in the City of Saint Paul Minnesota, houses three sea loins in their exhibit Como Harbor. This expansive exhibit has three separate Life Support Systems filtering five different pools throughout the habitat. The main pool, cove pool and holding pools 1 & 2 total to 260,000-gallons and are all filtered through one Life Support System. The remaining two pools, holding pool 3, with 5,600-gallons, and holding pool 5, with 6,000-gallons, are each run on their own Life Support Systems.
Satchell Engineering & Associates designed the aquatic Life Support System for Como Harbor. The system for the Main pool, Cove pool, and Holding pools 1 & 2 uses a fine filtration system consisting of perlite filters and pumps, vertical sand filters and pumps, deaeration towers, ozone disinfection, off-gas destruct, chlorinators, heat exchangers and backwash recovery. Holding pool 3 uses a fine filtration system consisting of vertical sand filters and pumps, heat exchangers and UV sterilization. Hold pool 5 is also on a fine filtration system utilizing vertical sand filters and pumps, heat exchangers, and UV sterilization. See Photo Gallery
