At Louisville Zoo, Satchell Engineering & Associates designed a back of house holding facility for zoo’s Hellbenders. These new tanks are designed to help with the care of the salamanders and for breeding purposes. The project includes 176-gallons of freshwater that is split amongst eight different tanks than is run on its own aquatic Life Support System. We also designed additional tanks and life support systems for construction in the future. These future builds include an additional 176-gallons split between eight tanks, as well as adding two new tanks that would add 180-gallons of freshwater, with each of these new systems being run on their own life support system
The aquatic Life Support System designed for these back of house exhibits uses a fine filtration system that consists of biofilters and pumps, bag filters, skid controllers, reverse osmosis systems, UV sterilization, heat exchangers, and electric heaters. See Photo Gallery.
