The Ocean Discovery Institute is a facility designed to foster a community of curiosity in young minds who don’t have access to science and technology in their day to day lives. This program helps children from minority communities explore career opportunities in Biotech, environmental sciences, engineering, and environmental consulting. The Living Lab within the Ocean Discovery Institute is where this knowledge is shared with students, housing multiple advanced laboratories, wall-to-wall video livestreams of the San Diego Coastline for observations, and garden terrace.
Satchell Engineering & Associates designed a saltwater storage and supply system for the Living Lab. These saltwater supply taps in the laboratories, discovery gallery, and main atrium allow students to perform experiments on the ecosystems within the saltwater. The saltwater supply system consists of a 48″ diameter storage tanks, air blowers, and pumps, to move the supply around the building.
