Rosamond Gifford Zoo is home to the Hela Beck Asian Elephant preserve. This exhibit is 7 acres, providing the elephant herd in residence plenty of room to roam. The exhibit also features a 49,000-gallon freshwater naturalistic watering hole for the elephants to play in.

Satchell Engineering & Associates designed the aquatic Life Support System for the watering hole within this exhibit. The exhibit uses both a coarse and fine filtration system to ensure the highest quality of filtration for larger animals. The coarse filtration system uses a screen channel and grit separator pumps to remove larger particulates from the water. The fine filtration system consists of  vertical sand filters and pumps, and chlorinators.
