SeaWorld Orlando contracted Satchell Engineering & Associates to create a Concept Design for their project Orcas Reimagining. We designed an environmentally conscious filtration system that would utilize biofiltration wetlands to perform denitrification processes on the water associated with the orca exhibit. The use of these biofiltration wetlands will allow for the filtration of ammonia, nitrates and turbidity overtime, resulting in reduced stress on the mechanical sand filters.

The wetlands would be a salt marsh design with different aquatic plant life to create aerobic conditions for the filtration processes to occur. The marshes would also be designed with flow meters, electrically activated valves, level adjusting sumps that tie back into the pre-existing Life Support System equipment for the orca pool.
