The $30 million expansion of SeaWorld San Antonio’s Dolphin Cove doubled the water volume of the habitat, enlarging the pool to hold more than 600,000-gallons of saltwater. This massive undertaking and more room for the pod of dolphins housed at the aquarium to play as well as added for interactive features for guests to get up close and personal with the dolphins. With in-pool encounters and underwater viewing, this new exhibit is a wonder to uphold.

Satchell Engineering & Associates designed the aquatic Life Support System for this exhibit. This expansive habitat contains five pools: a 250,000-gallon sanctuary and underwater viewing pool, a 30,000-gallon interactive pool, a 41,000-gallon shift pool, a 95,000-gallon nursery pool, and a 17,000-gallon medical pool. The expansion added on to the existing dolphin pool, reusing some the the previous equipment for the life support that was still in working condition.  The life support system for this exhibit utilized a fine filtration system that consisted of vertical sand filters and pumps, deaeration towers, ozone disinfection, off-gas destruct, chlorinators, and heat exchangers.
