UC Santa Barbara contracted Satchell Engineering & Associates to review and evaluate the existing equipment at their Marine Biotech Laboratories. The equipment at these labs were designed to hold and filter saltwater in order to provide samples for the students performing different research projects. A combination of age and exposure to the elements rapidly degraded the life span of the equipment. In addition, many of the different pieces of equipment were outdated for industry standards. Satchell Engineering & Associates lead engineers were able to point out the problematic areas of the system to the UCSB staff and provide recommendations of improvements to the system in order to bring the equipment back to industry standards.
