The Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium has a variety of different animals housed within their facility. From tigers to small fish, Point Defiance introduces a range of wildlife to its guests. In attempts to expand their variety, they added three new exhibits for viewing: a 26,700-gallon juvenile hammerhead tank, 11,800-gallon eagle rays’ tank, and a 5,000-gallon tea turtle tank. This expansion also included a 4,700-gallon reservoir tank to help supply water to these exhibits and others within the aquariums.
Satchell Engineering & Associates designed the aquatic Life Support Systems for these four new exhibits. Each tank has its own designated life support system that use a fine filtration system. The filtration systems consist of sand filters and pumps, GAC filters and pumps, deaeration towers, packaged fractionators, UV sterilization, and heat exchangers.
