Topeka Zoo & Conservation Center is home to a variety of different animals, but they are creating plans to add even more life to the zoo. With the Master Plan expansion, they intend to add Otters and Penguins to the zoo. Satchell Engineering & Associates was contracted to create a concept design for the Penguin exhibit, the Otter exhibit, and a new pond on the property
These designs include three different pools totaling to 147,000-gallons of both salt and freshwater. The system utilize a fine filtration system that consists of vertical sand filters and pumps, deaeration towers, saltwater mixing basins, protein skimmers, ozone disinfection, off-gas destruct, chlorinators, and heat exchangers.
