Saint Louis Zoo’s exhibit River’s Edge is home to a variety of different animals such as the hippopotamus, Asian elephant, Black Rhino, and the African Painted dog. This area highlights different animals from the world that make the River’s edge their home.
Robert Satchell, founding member of Satchell Engineering & Associates, designed the aquatic Life Support System from the African Painted Dog exhibit. This habitat features a 2,500-gallon freshwater pool for the dogs to lounge in. This exhibit also features a waterfall that cascades down the rockwork into the pool below. The system uses a fine filtration system that consists of bead filters and pumps, chlorinators, and heat exchangers.
