Cincinnati Zoo’s Roo Valley is an expansive Australian themed exhibit to both Kangaroos and Little Blue Penguins. Satchell Engineering & Associates played a special role in designing the habitat for the Little Blue Penguins. Their 38,000-gallons saltwater exhibit features the penguin’s main pool built for optimal penguin health, a back of house holing pool for animal care, and many smaller pools creating a cascading waterfall.
Satchell Engineering & Associates designed the aquatic Life Support System for the Little Blue Penguin pool. This exhibit uses a fine filtration system consisting of vertical sand filters and pumps, deaeration towers, ozone disinfection, off-gas destruct, chlorinators, and heat exchangers.
