San Diego, CA

Satchell Engineering & Associates developed the concept design for a pool within the Chilean Flamingo exhibit at the San Diego Zoo Safari park. This exhibit would feature a 45,000-gallon freshwater lagoon that the flamingos can enjoy and nest in. This lagoon would of tied to the pre-existing Mombasa Lagoon that would act as a sump basin for the flamingo exhibit lagoon.

The aquatic Life Support System for this exhibit integrates existing systems from the Mombasa Lagoon and introduces new equipment to system in order to improve filtration. The system uses a fine filtration system that consists of vertical sand filters and pumps, ozone disinfection, off-gas destruct, and chlorinators.
