John Ball Zoo recently opened their new North American River Otter Exhibit. This 22,000-gallon freshwater exhibit features two front of house pools with underwater viewing and a waterfall feature and two back of house pool used for animal treatment.
Satchell Engineering & Associates designed the aquatic Life Support System for this exhibit. This exhibit was designed to with the zoo’s sustainability goals in mind. This system uses a fine filtration system consists of vertical sand filters and pumps, deaeration towers, ozone disinfection, off-gas destruct, UV sterilization, chlorinators, and heat exchangers.
